UPSC Prelims Exam 2017

The Supreme Court on Tuesday dated 01 Aug.,2017 dismissed a plea relating to the (Union Public Service Commission) UPSC Exam 2017. The plea wanted the removal of alleged wrong questions in the paper or the addition of grace marks.

Senior advocate Colin Gonsalves, appearing for the petitioner requested from Court to direct the UPSC to release the answer key to the UPSC prelims examination 2017 and to set up an expert committee to examine question papers of this year and suggest needful actions on ambiguous questions.

On behalf of petitioner he argued as there were multiple correct answers to a question on two schools of thought, they should be taken into consideration. He was of the view that it would affect UPSC result .

On behalf of UPSC ,Senior advocate P S Patwalia, said that while 35 candidates gave representations to the UPSC, but the petitioner candidate has not given any.

He also submitted that the expert panel did not found any ambiguity in the question paper and, therefore, all those representations have been rejected.

After listening both sides, the bench comprising justices Amitava Roy and A M Khanwilkar dismissed the plea saying that the petitioner had failed to provide any representation to the UPSC claiming that there was more than one correct answer to a question.

The bench also backed its argument saying that UPSC candidates of the all-India services exam are expected to go by the books and not rely on theories of researchers.Nothing was out of  UPSC Syllabus . The court has earlier in agreement to look at a plea that claimed that there were two or more questions in the UPSC civil service preliminary exam 2017 that had multiple answers and could be subject to interpretation.

UPSC Prelims Exam was held in June,2017. UPSC has also declared result and successful candidates are preparing for UPSC Mains Exam. Hope aspirants who did not get success this time will start their preparation for 2018.They should forget this case and must start utilising their time
